ICONYC [ahy-kon-ik],  is a photosharing mobile app that helps New Yorkers explore more of their culturally and historically rich surroundings. They will be able to discover new interests, fund local community organizations, and become more active in their communities.Â

New York's Iconic Views
Our initial focus for BigApps is the iconic vistas of the New York cityscape. NYC is a constellation of magic moments and its skyline is the number two attraction on Trip Advisor. With our newly elected Mayor Bill de Blasio and the Cornell Tech project, our cityscape is expected to undergo sweeping changes over the next decade. Thus, we must address the city's challenges of affordability and job creation. Our application hopes to mark these changes and give New Yorkers a better comprehension and appreciation of our urban environment's constant evolution.Â
We've created a dataset of 250 observation decks, rooftop restaurants, and vantage points from public spaces- that include views from streets, piers, bridges, and parks. Some are well known such as the view from the Brooklyn Bridge or the Empire State Building. Others are more obscure such as the view from the Loopy Doopy rooftop bar in Battery Park City or the panoramic view from Sunset Park in Brooklyn.
Just imagine watching the evolution of the cityscape throughout the years in a few seconds;Â and the photo that you've just taken becomes part of that history.
Users will also be able to learn about the icons that compose the view and see historical photos of that view from decades past, and share their photos on other social media applications.
